was born on March 28, 1940 in Kagasaki, Japan. He received a bachelor's degree from Yamaguchi University, majoring in Physics, and a doctorate in Engineering from Kyushu University. He was appointed as a lecturer at the Institute of Industrial Science of Kyushu University in 1972, and Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Saga University. He became a full professor at that University in 1986. He has been studying and conducting research on OTEC systems and components of OTEC plants: condenser, evaporator and turbine. Dr. Uehara is Director of OTEC Laboratory at Saga University, where a 75 KW OTEC plant was constructed.
is the President of Oceanit Laboratories Inc. OLI provides coastal and environmental engineering services and performs research, development and prototype testing. He concurrently serves as Adjunct Professor at the University of Hawaii and also as Vice-Chairman of High Technology Development Corporation located in Honolulu. Dr. Sullivan obtained his B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Colorado in 1978 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Ocean Engineering from the University of Hawaii in 1981 and 1985. He has written and published a number of articles on OTEC.
received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972, and is now serving as the Chairman of the Department of Ocean Engineering of the University of Hawaii and Director of the J.K.K. Look Loboratory of Oceanographic Engineering. He began working in OTEC in 1980 on a study that measured current structure, water column characteristics, and biological conditions; this data was analyzed and used to project the dilution and transport of discharge from a hypothetical 49 MW OTEC plant. He has conducted studies on the dynamics of gas exchange in seawater, for which he has been awarded a U.S. patent.
graduated from the Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands in 1959, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a special interest in Energy Technology. He was with the Engineering and Construction Company Comprimo at Amsterdam from 1970 to 1980 and with the Dutch Agency for Energy and Environment from 1980 to 1986, where he was active in the promotion, preparation and execution of energy conservation. In 1986 he joined Tebodin, Consultants and Engineers, at the Hague, where he has been working as a senior consultant for energy and environmental technology. He was active as a consultant to the Electricity and Water production company of Curacao. While then he became interested in the possibilities of using deep ocean water as a means for improving the efficiency of both the power production and the sea water desalination process. He worked closely with Tebodin's sister company, Delta Marine Consultants at Gouda, represented in the OTEC/DOWA working committee by Professor Charles Vos.
